BarbeCode – 5th Edition

BarbeCode – 5th Edition

This autumn’s edition of BarbeCode took place on 20th October and we had a great landscape that truly delighted us.

We gathered over 65 seniors from the local market and discussed over topics like:

  • Machine Learning;
  • Design Patterns;
  • Artificial Intelligence;
  • Security;
  • and a non-technical topic about personality.

We brought something new and organised a panel in wich speakers answered questions from the public and exposed ideas and discussed AI’s influence on the nowaday’ socienty.

You are the hero! Swimathon Iasi

The Iasi Community Foundation aims to bring together the people who move the things and the things worth moving to the benefit of the whole community, to transform Iasi into a city where we are proud to live. The Swimathon event is the only swimming and fund-raising event in Iasi. About 360 swimmers take part in it for 6 hours, most of them from IT companies, multinationals, NGOs and initiative groups. About 2,000 people attended to the event Nessians made waves on 14th June at the Municipal Swimming Pool. This year, Ness Digital Engineering Iasi has 2 teams: LochNess Monsters & iForex Team.

Thanks everyone for your commitment and donations (donations for “Fondul de burse” – children’s scholarships from rural areas  and “Zambet pentru ingerasi” – children with cancer).  We are glad that our fundraising objective was achieved, that proves that Nessians are part of the community.

Ness @Codecamp Chisinau

Ness Iasi recently participated @ CodeCamp organized in Chisinau, Moldavia Republic. Participating @ CodeCamp Chisinau fits right in with Ness’s strategy of attracting valuable tech-savvy resources as the city boasts of an interesting talent pool and some very good tech specialists.

Born in 2008 with a strong desire for better communication among IT professionals, CodeCamp was encouraged since its early beginnings by corporates and other communities. Codecamp brings together people from all the IT disciplines and career levels; right from bright and enthusiastic students and juniors to the more experienced, wise and grey-haired senior and expert participants.

Our colleague Constantin Popa, Senior Software Engineer speak about Reactive programming for Java developers: “In this talk, I’ve introduced the Reactive Programming(RP) paradigm which is about applications that are event-driven, asynchronous, non-blocking and require a small number of threads to scale vertically (i.e. within the same JVM) rather than horizontally (i.e. through clustering).

Second of all, I’ve talked about Reactor, the Reactive Streams implementation offered by Pivotal, which enabled users to apply RP using a rich API. Reactive Streams is a joint effort of Netflix, Lightbend, and others, to standardize RP across the industry, so various implementations like Reactor or RxJava can interoperate.

Lastly, I’ve demonstrated how to create reactive web applications using Spring WebFlux, part of Spring 5 which embraces the Reactive Streams specification by using Reactor under the hoods. Amongst the demoed use cases were consuming data from a reactive repository like MongoDB, returning an infinite stream from a Spring Controller, or orchestrating multiple remote services. For a heterogeneous audience composed of high school/university students all the way to already employed professionals, they were very enthusiastic about the subject and helped create a wonderful environment for me to deliver the presentation.”

BarbeCode – 4th Edition

BarbeCode – 4th Edition

The 4th edition of BarbeCode took place on May 5 th, in a wonderful and sunny Saturday.

It was another successful event where 60 seniors, sharing the same passion for technology, from Ness and local companies, spent the day in a relaxing atmosphere and participated in various technical presentations.

This edition’s topics were about the evolution of cyber security threads (more complex and aggressive), we had a talk about big data pipelines, one about how to build a recommender system and even had a demo in TerraForm.

The feedbacks from the participants are great and encourages us to continue with more editions in the future.

The FIICode is a national contest that addresses students, in which they can enroll their knowledge in algorithmic, web or gaming technologies. It consists of 3 sections, Algorithmic, Web/Mobile and GameDev, each specifically designed for this event, and covering a certain area of IT that is currently expanding. United Business Center Iasi challenged us to open our doors for the young enthusiastic students in our city and we were happy to accept.

A very good opportunity for the students to interact with a real work place, talk with our colleagues and see our internships opportunities.

How was the long-expected day of September 24th, 2017?

The morning started with some capricious clouds that made us worried about the outdoor activities, but eventually the gentle sun of September showed up.

We really had some successful ingredients for a nice Sunday in the family:  interesting theme for the dress-code, a fantastic location, activities and games for kids, delicious food and drinks, a very tempting candy bar, Western dancers and a lovely country music background.

We are glad that we spent a day together socializing, having fun with our colleagues and family members, watching the live cooking, being amused by taking western inspired photos.

Thank you all for your support, good energy and happy smiles! 😊
